First and last time. The service is friendly and attentive(for the most part), but the food is below average at best. Went here mistakingly for Valentines with my wife and had the worst meal I've had in the state of Pensilvania since I've moved here last fall. Scallops were tough and oddly sweet(not scallop sweet) as was the risotto; I added a stuffed Lobster tail which was tough and their "signature" crab stuffing tasted like cornmeal and was brought to me cold in the inside... Twice!!! Maybe it was my mistake to order high-end entrees from a place of this caliber, but if you're going to have them on your menu, then they should be at least palatable. This was bad period. Not worth the money or the upset stomach.

An organization I'm active in hosted an event at Sycamore Grille - and it was a huge success. Everyone was thrilled with the food, the room and the service. We'll be back for sure!

tl;dr EVERYTHING IS FROZEN OR CANNED. The salmon on the salad was canned (did not say so on the menu), the baked brie was clearly frozen and pre-made, as were the kids fries they had the nerve to describe as "signature" (you know they're especially flavorless and disgustingly greasy when a 3 yr old turns them down after one bite). Grilled cheese using processed cheesed singles? GTFO with this garbage. Even the steak appeared to have been cooked from frozen as it was pink, almost cool, in the middle and completely dry and overdone to be damned on the outside. Don't waste your time or money.

The wife and I had dinner here Thursday night. We shared the calamad and onion soup. Both were exceptional. She also had a side Cesare salad which was really good and pretty large for a side salad. They didn't skimp on the cheese either. I had the steak and ale special for $13.99 which included a 10 oz strip, vegetables, potatoes and a choice of blue cheese or sautéed mushrooms and onions as a topper. Also with the special, you get a free pt of domestic beer. Pretty good deal and the food was good. My wife ordered the lobster and penne with vodka sauce. Lobster was kind of mushy and she sent it back. Our waiter apologized and offered us something else but my wife decided on dessert. She ordered the cinnamon bun and it was out of this world. We would definitely go back again. Our waiter Ben was awesome and very attentive to our needs. As we were walking out, the manager came up to is and apologized about the lobster but it happens and the dessert made up for it.

Below average, so below average. Everything we had was sub par - salad, bread, ribs, and pork loin all bad. Should have gone to the Gem and Keystone Pub instead.

We went to Sycamore Grill after reading their positive reviews on Yelp. Well, we were not disappointed. The food was outstanding. Yes, it is mostly pub fare, but we all know that some restaurants even manage to mess that up. The service was impeccable and the staff was extremely friendly. The food is reasonably priced and the servings were plentiful. The next time I am in this area I definitely will be back at Sycamore Grill.

Nice environment, very friendly staff, food was great, I order the strip steak and it was the best I've had. My wife ordered the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin that she was very happy with! Would defiantly visit again!!!!

While driving through the Poconos my wife and I were looking for a quick bite. We really didn't have great expectations since there didn't seem to be much of a yelp presence in this part of PA. So we were surprised to find Sycamore Grille with so many good reviews. And we were even more surprised to find that the food was really good. and the menu options were very modern. When we got there were was a live cover band who that was playing mostly 90s 00s music. They were actually pretty good with a good range of variety. Thankfully we were seated away from the band because the volume was actually a little too loud. My wife was thinking about getting a dish that included ricotta cheese but wasn't sure if it was ok to being that she is pregnant. Thankfully the chef knew that it was best to avoid it and she was able to promptly order something else. Our server was nice, and was earnest in being as helpful as possible. Next time we pass through this area on an empty stomach, this place will without a doubt be on the top of the list of places to eat.

Good food but service was very slow. It took 15 min before our waitress greeted us and that was after we asked another to find her. I will give credit though, our waitress was very nice. I had the Teriyaki Salmon. It was good, however I have had much better. Had the crab cake for an appetizer, which was excellent. The onion soup was ok, nothing special about it. If your looking for a quite place you might not care for it here. Very, very noisy place. I probably would of given 4 stars but just couldn't with the service. I will definitely go back again and hopefully it will improve.

Go somewhere else. To me, even the simplest of visits, like "give me something fried for lunch" have proven extremely disappointing. From rotten meat being served to me at dinner, to watching fruit flies come out of the beer tap while eating a mediocre to poor shrimp basket at the bar, this place scares the heck out of me. I wouldn't go anywhere near it. Maybe they have a new chef or something, but I'm not that adventurous to find out. Should be one star, but I will give it two based on the fact that it used to be decent.

this place couldn't have been more unassuming in a tiny town in the poconos. I loved the food. the rest of the menu looked amazing. the people I was with were just as pleased. great service. if im ever back that way and hungry (at the same time), I say "yes"

The last time I went there, I was served a rotten steak. Rotten, as in I took one bite and couldn't swallow it because it was rancid meat. The server and manager regarded us with apathy and suspicion, respectively. They offered us another dinner (no, thanks) and made us pay for our drinks.

Friends of mine had driven in to the Stroudsburg area for a visit, so we decided to do a nice dinner at the Sycamore Grill. Only 5 minutes from their hotel, and 35 minutes from my fiance and I in Scranton, this place was the perfect distance for all. Unfortunately, it was far from perfect in every other aspect. It started with my fiance Jay and I getting there first to request a table for 8. As we were waiting for the others to arrive, we noticed a couple out front walking their dog, repeatedly, by the front door of the restaurant. Two minutes later, as other customers entered the restaurant, the dog happened to slip out of his harness and made a b-line into the restaurant, through all of the tables of people, and right through to the kitchen! Thankfully the dog was caught, and everyone resumed their dinner. When my friends arrived, we took our seat by a long, glass door, overlooking the main street outside. When our server came to our table, she mentioned that they were not yet serving dinner (dinner wasn't being served until 5:00, and it was now only 4:00), but we could choose from any of the appetizers and drinks. My friends decided to go with their "Beer of the Month": Leinenkugal Summer Shandy. When my friend Jess ordered one, the waitress looked at her very puzzled. "A what?" she said to my friend. "A Leinenkugal, Summer Shandy" Jess replied. "Ok........" the waitress replied as she jotted something down on her pad which we were pretty certain had to be 3-year old scribble. A few moments later a second waitress showed up to the table. "I'm sorry, what was it you wanted?" to which my friend said the name again, and the second waitress replied, hysterically, "what is that?" HA! My friend proceeded to point to the menu which listed very clearly "Beer of the Month: Leinenkugal Summer Shandy" to which the waitress still seemed rather confused, but eventually returned with the beers. As you can probably assume, the dinner continued in a downward spiral. From a bee landing on our table and my friend being forced to trap it under a glass and carry it outside, to a hair found in the food, to my order incorrectly made, to the dirty linen napkins and lip-smudged glasses, to the watered-down soda, it was an overall disaster! Any other couple would've walked out, but we managed to make the best of it and laugh off this insane place, only to NEVER return again!

My fiance and I decided on the Sycamore for our belated Valentine's dinner (We both were sick on Valentine's day), and I think we made the proper choice. We started the dinner off with a fantastic chardonnay for me (6.50 a glass) and a Milky Way martini for her (7.50 a glass), ordered the Chorizo stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. The Mushrooms were absolutely fantastic.. small portion, but as an appetizer, you don't want anything large, and the flavor was larger than life. We continued the dinner with a house salad with vinigarette for me, a Sycamore special salad with pecans, feta, and cranberries over spinach for her, very satisfying. I ordered a NY strip steak, she ordered the Chicken, feta, and polenta dish. When they arrived, the presentation was fantastic, a twice baked potato and bok choy to die for with mine, her polenta was delicious, and the chicken itself was wonderfully tender and juicy, and they didn't skimp on the flavorful toppings, either. (Mushrooms, spinach, feta, and sun dried tomatoes.) I ordered a glass of shiraz to go with my steak, and it was epic. The steak itself was the most tender, flavorful NY strip I've eaten in recent memory. Our waitress was new, but she already had a fantastic grasp on the service end of it, even though she stumbled through the specials a little bit. We wanted to order a desert, but were just too stuffed to continue. The dessert tray looked mouthwatering though. Final bill was near about 100 dollars, plus tip, so don't go looking for savings unless you order strictly off the pub menu (Average price about 10 per entree), But the "Pricier" food is well worth it. The waitress even helped us decide where to go afterwards for entertainment (Deer Tree Inn, 300 yards up the road, great Jazz), and truly made the night special. We plan on going back as soon as possible, 5 stars all the way. Based on this visit, I would reccomend this for anyone planning to take their sweety out, have a nice meal with extended family, or even for a nice treat to yourself.

Just had the best meal ever...appetizer of pesto shrimp over bruschetta, spinach salad with cranberries, pecans, and sweet sycamore maple poppyseed dressing, and main entree was crab stuffed shrimp with garlic butter, fresh string beans, and wild rice yum! Made our trip worthwhile, since our timeshare was horrible.

This place is great! I go here at least once a month. The decor is so cute, it's like outside inside. My favorite food here is the sweet sycamore salad, the dressing is to die for. Hubby likes the buffalo calamari. I highly recommend this restaurant!!

Amazing! Glad we asked where's a good place to eat. Try the baby back ribs and sweet sycamore salad. Yum!

We were there just last night. They were out of two main dishes even though we came at 5:30pm and the first customers to be served for the evening. The crab cake was edible but nothing to write home about. No lump crab just the canned shredded kind mixed with bread crumbs and not browned nicely either when cooked. The lobster dish was over cooked and the lobster had a mushy texture. The barbecue ribs had some parts that were difficult to chew and had to spit out into napkin. The carrot side was bland. I've had better carrots at a diner. The fresh basil strawberry lemonade cocktail was pretty good. My husband was over charged for his beer by $1.50. We have had their spinach salad specialty dish before and is usually very good. It was fairly good this time as well. The waitress was rude and made the dining experience there very uncomfortable when I sent back my dish. We ended up leaving early because she made sitting there feel so awkward and she smelled heavily of cigarette smoke. She was not apologetic at all but rather nasty. The hostess made a weak attempt to smooth the situation over. The best service came from the bus person. He was attentive and polite. The women serving in the restaurant could take a lesson in customer service from him. Bill came to over $110 for three people. I would have gotton better food and service from a diner and paid a whole lot less. I really expect more from an entre I paid $29.00 for. What a waste of an evening and money. I don't know how they will keep their clientelle if this is what folks are expected to pay for.

Nice atmosphere and better than average pub grub and beer selection, but loses points for indifferent, slow service. Would not recommend unless you have the time and patience for a long, leisurely meal.

Not impressed at all as bartenders took forever to greet and see what we wanted. Staff could use better customer service training and maybe place could be better.

This place was a decent place to eat at, considering the location. I had come in in between lunch and dinner time, so I believe the staff were getting everything set up a bit as it didin't seem too busy. We were greeted by this lady at the door and she seemed very friendly. Was seated and told that our server would be right out. Our food: a salmon club & a pulled pork sandwich were pretty good. I don't come across a lot of places that sell salmon sandwiches, so I decided I'd get it and substitute the regular fries for sweet potato fries. Very flavorful, so yum! The service on the other hand, could have been a little better. It wasn't the worst, but it could have been better. Our waitress seemed a little scared to talk to us, as if we were going to eat her or something (I mean, we were hungry, but still). A couple that was seated not too far from us got a much more warm welcome that mine and I did, which is pretty unfortunate and upset me a little. Overall, maybe I'd come back to try another dish, but I would hope their service is a lot better. I'd give a 3/5 for service, 4/5 for food.

My Husband and I picked this place to have our reheresal dinner on 5/3/13 because it was close to where everyone was staying. I can't say enough positives about this place. They set us up in a private room and our server was amazing. She even held my bridesmaids baby for alittle bit so she could eat! Very personable and friendly. The price for the four course meal was very reasonable and the food was great. Everyone left stuff and satisfied. They even worked with me to make sure the linens matched our bridesmaid dress colors..a great touch! I would recommend this place for reheresal dinners since its close to wedding venues and reasonably priced. Thanks to this place for a memoriable, great reheresal dinner. Thanks!

I think its a worth checking out. We got there at an odd time so only the bar menu was available. We had 2 meals, one being pretty good and the other being acceptable. Reasonably priced.

This place is great, and definitely a change-of-pace from most restaurants in the area. I've been here to eat dinner a few times, and I always enjoyed it. What I came back for, though, was their wings - which are amazing (best in the area). Not your typical bar wings, the flavors are a little bit more exotic I guess is the word, and they usually have different flavors every week. The bartender is great too, and it's a good place to relax, have a few drinks, and enjoy some awesome wings. Definitely plan on going back in next time I'm visiting home.

Would give negative stars being that when I ate here it was really like eating negative food because I puked everything out that was inside my body because of the food poising that they served me. Mmmmmmmmmmm.

My main squeeze wasn't feeling up to making dinner so we headed over to the DWG for a quick bite at the Sycamore Grill. Quick, it was NOT. Just about a 35 minute wait for dos burgers on a slow night. My glass of water smelled like fish. YUCK!! For a restaurant that seems very concerned about the atmosphere (mood lighting) the staff was obnoxiously loud clanging silverware, dragging tables, loud chatting, etc. It made it difficult to enjoy a nice, quiet dinner with my boo. Overall, food was decent, price was okay but there wasn't anything that makes me want to go back.

[2009] All-around great grill and bar. Staff are friendly and accomadating. Lunch and dinner menus have a variety of options. Flavors range from adequate to delectable. Stop by soon. You'll be glad you did. [2011 update] Still a fabulous, local bar with excellent food and fantastic company. I'd recommend one thing from the menu, but I like everything. Really.

I'd like to give the Sycamore Grille 3.5 stars, because it's somewhat more than ok, but a bit less than "yay!". Our waiter was a very pleasant, polite and friendly young man who was attentive without being intrusive--which would account for my desire to give the place another star, just for the service. The calamari appetizer was good and not overcooked and tough as is often the case. The bread is served with a pesto dipping oil (which appears to be olive oil with minced basil) and was quite good. The salads were fresh, but the dressings just ok. (The blue cheese dressing was a bit on the sweet side for me and I thought the balsamic vinaigrette my dining companion had was foul tasting, but he enjoyed it). The entrees were ok but not extraordinary despite the very appetizing menu descriptions. I had chicken and broccoli sacchettini--the sacchettini (cheese stuffed bundles) were somewhat lacking in flavor and cheese. The pan seared scallop special was ok, but again, not extradordinary. Prices were on the high side for the somewhat ordinary quality of the food. However, the atmosphere and service made for a very pleasant meal.

Pretty good, slightly upscale bar food. The service was friendly and attentive but the portions were a bit on the small side given the menu prices.

Very nice place, especially for the area. Good service, decent food, nice atmosphere. Elsewhere I would have given them three stars, but given the options in the Poconos, they definitely deserve 4 stars.

I discovered this place roughly three years ago, and is now one of my favorites in the area. I agree with what some have said about the decor needing a good cleaning at times, but I'm not there for the decor. I'm there for the extensive beer selection, the awesome wings, and the fantastic dinner menu. Come here often enough and the bar staff will remember your preferences. Both the bar menu and the table menu (which can be ordered at the bar if a view of the tvs is desired) offer great selections (I'm a meat+potatos man and I really like their Sycamore salad- go figure). Yes, the bar can get noisy, but it's full and lively on a Friday or Saturday night. They also do live music on a regular basis (Jimmy Brown is a must-see). Neal is always good for a quick joke or a quip on politics. Go, enjoy.

The Sycamore grill was nice to eat at. I found the place on yelp and Im glad I went for a visit. I have the calamari for an appetizer. It wasn't the real big kind that they have at seafood places but it was good. For my entree I had the salmon. It was delicious, the grill marks were great. On the downside my girlfriend ordered the eggplant parm and it came in a ceramic dish. When she started to eat it, she realized it was frozen in the middle. Obviously it wasn't made fresh and it was a huge turn off. We didn't send it back, instead we had it wrapped up and we departed. Other than the frozen eggplant this is a good restaurant.

Summed Up: Easy to spot, large building in a quaint town. Great atmosphere outside and in. Go here for a nice family grilled meal; dressed up WITH reservations. Otherwise they seat you with the outdoor sports fans (see below) I would suggest getting something thats actually grilled. I 'chickened' out and got the chicken pasta. It had fancy ravioli with tasteless cheese, the garlic sauce didn't have much flavor. Veggies were frozen bag quality. In fact only a day after eating at this establishment, I saw an Olive Garden tv advertisement with the same pasta meal!! I was shocked. So either OG is copying this meal, or the sycamore sells frozen just like OG... My companions meal was a little better. "Grilled" Salmon with Rice Pilaf. Salmon was okay, rice was bland, spinach was "really good".... As for the service, it was okay. The restaurant contradicts itself by having signs stating hikers are welcome. (As this is a Pocono, outdoor sport region.) But alas, we were shoved in a dark corner next to the bar with the other hikers. It was so obvious we were treated second class just because we look a little disheveled..... We didn't get menus right away, our candle wasn't lit, and we didn't get bread like everyone else did. All this had to be asked for and we waited and waited.... I spent a long day hiking and having a great romantic time in the Poconos. I was hungry, and probably wouldn't have visited here if I had known it would turn out like this. So to wrap it up. For the price I paid, I would expect more than a $8 Olive Garden dish and a cheap salmon bland dish. Actual Price: Pasta $18 Salmon $20 Not too bad, but I want more flavor!! There was no salt and pepper on the table. Too add on to what Walter T. stated; there were cobwebs on the plastic plants above my head. This place needs a good dusting!

    (4)
  • Walter T.

We were vacationing in the area and used a gift certificate we purchased on restaurant.com . The atmosphere was nice, thou the entrance needed power washing to clear the cob webs from the sign and window awnings. The food was excellent. The boy had his baby back ribs, the wife had a the rib eye the size of NJ, and I had the pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon encrusted with cinnamon in a port wine sauce. Everything was cooked to order and we left over full. My only concern was the blocking of an exit with a double table, but that's the fireman in me.

Absolutely love this restaurant. Love the selection of food and "specials" for the night. Try their house salad- so good! Also, if you are a drinker, they have wonderful monthly drink specials!!

Served very slow. We were waiting for 40 mins and still no entrees came and we had to have everything to go since we were catching bus.

    (1)
  • Rui S.

Well, it's not that the food is not good here, but by the time we got to the restaurant we were really trying to catch a bus so we ordered burgers which were supposed to be the fastest possible meal to get at the restaurant but it failed us, we waited for about 40 to 45 minutes for the food and we had to get them to go. I would really appreciate it if burgers could come sooner.

    (2)
  • PJ E.

We walked in and the sound system was a little loud. Our drinks were ok. The house spinach salad with pecans dried cranberry and blue cheese house dressing very enjoyable. Our steak entree cooked to order and good. The "famous" double stuff potato is a joke. Banquet pre frozen. Ordinary. As were the veg of the day. Not fresh as we expected. Frozen. Bread heated dry. Not good. Chocolate cake dessert ok. All in all an ordinary place and not where we will return.
